About the course

This is an entry level course that provides the learner with information technology (IT) literacy skills in setting up a personal computer, accessing files with application programs, sending and retrieving emails, using the internet, using peripheral devices, such as printers, applying basic security procedures and power-management settings, and backing up and shutting down a personal computer. On successful completion of the course a participation record will be issued.

This non-accredited course will be delivered in a classroom environment by award-winning trainers at Bankstown community college institute, Level 1, 457 Chapel Road Bankstown NSW 2200. Location

Prerequisite

Whilst there are no prerequisites for this course, it is expected that you have adequate language, literacy and numeracy skills and computer skills to be able to interact with peers, trainers and access to a Windows operated computer or laptop at home or at your workplace to practice lessons.

Learning outcomes

When you have completed the course successfully, you should be able to:

  • Prepare to use the personal computer
  • Manage computer configurations
  • Access and use basic application programs
  • Access and use basic peripheral devices
  • Shut down computer

Learning strategies

This non-accredited course will be delivered in a classroom environment on Windows 10 platform. Learning methods will include face to face learning, case studies, demonstrations, questions and answers.

Resource Requirements

Learner manuals will be provided at no further cost than the course fee. This course requires the use of computer and internet either in the classroom or at the students' home or workplace to research the relevant legislations, industry standards and to develop relevant workplace documents.
